The Primary School participates in the IEB Primary Schools’ Initiative and draws on aspects of the various National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS), catering for the Foundation Phase (Grades 1-3), Intermediate Phase (Grades 4-6) and the start of the Senior Phase (Grade 7). The following subjects are covered during the Primary School years:
The Senior Phase (Grades 7-9) starts in the High School with Grade 8. In Grade 10, scholars choose the subjects they wish to pursue to matriculation. The High School curriculum draws on aspects of the relevant CAPS documents and, more specifically, the requirements of the Subject Assessment Guidelines (SAGs) published by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) for the FET Phase (Grades 10-12).In Grades 8 and 9 the following subjects / areas are taught:
In Grade 10, scholars complete the Deutsches Sprachdiplom I (DSD I) in preparation for the DSD II in Grade 12, which is an internationally recognised, tertiary language proficiency qualification.
In Grades 10 to 12:
In their Grade 12 year, scholars are intensively prepared for the tertiary, internationally-recognised language proficiency diploma in German, the Deutsches Sprachdiplom II (DSD II), before completing the examinations in the second half of the Grade 12 year. The DSD II opens doors for further study at German universities, and career opportunities in South Africa and abroad.
Note: Scholars must take at least seven subjects in Grade 12 in order to qualify for the IEB National Senior Certificate (NSC). As a rule, our scholars take five core subjects and two elective subjects, although an additional elective subject can be chosen (additional fees apply) if the scholar meets the academic criteria.
* Music as IEB-examined subject for matriculation. Many scholars receive individual tuition for University of South Africa (UNISA), Trinity College of London (TCL) or Associated Boards of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM - ‘Royal Schools’) examinations (up to Grade 8 music level), but these are not National Senior Certificate subjects.
