Hermannsburg Golf Academy

The Penrose Golf Academy for Hermannsburg School was an initiative of Zola Mkumla (Shareholder and Old Scholar) and started by Marc Alexander who is a class “AA” PGA professional and his colleague Ryan Kimber, a class A PGA professional.

Marc started his golf career at Eye of Africa in 2012, he completed his apprenticeship in 2 years with the PGA and went from an apprentice to the Head Professional. After 5 years at Eye of Africa he moved to a more demanding role as the Assistant Golf Director at The Country Club Johannesburg, whilst at CCJ he worked closely with the PGA and soon upgraded to a class AA Professional.

Ryan started his career in golf at Eye of Africa as well where he started his apprenticeship. Ryan spent a little over 2 years at Eye of Africa, he then moved to The Els club at Copperleaf as a shop assistant. Ryan completed his apprenticeship and became a full member of the PGA at The Els Club Copperleaf before entering the retail business as a hard- lines sales consultant at The Pro Shop in Fourways.

The Hermannsburg Penrose Golf Academy is available to all grade 4-12 scholars enrolled at Hermannsburg. The costs of attending the academy are subsidised by the school and in addition, scholars who take part in the academy are provided with equipment necessary for their development. Golf is beneficial for our scholars, not just for the exercise and mental challenges the sport offers, but also for the etiquette learnt, and the professional networking opportunities it allows.
